5 Reasons Why Farscape Is Still The Best Sci-Fi TV Series Ever (20 Years On)
2. The Drama
An ever-evolving narrative ensured that the Farscape universe was constantly fresh and enthralling. For a show which featured an arrogant farting amphibian, it was incredible just how engaging and heart-rending Farscape was at times. This show was neither 'Muppets in Space' nor a Star Trek Knock-off, and newbies with those preconceptions were quick to change their opinion after watching more than one whole episode.
This was a show that featured all the love, rage and loss one should expect in sci-fi TV. Though in one respect it never took itself too seriously, it was also certain to cram a rich amount of drama into its run-time. Once the series found its feet and clarified its identity, the intensity of the story-telling grew and blossomed with each passing year. It's no understatement to say that one would struggle to jump into another TV series and feel the same level of emotion Farscape provided. And with everyone so impassioned with the show's success, the drama was an inevitable offshoot of its identity.
As previously stated, much of the more recent TV could learn a lesson or two in this area.
