5 Reasons Why Farscape Is Still The Best Sci-Fi TV Series Ever (20 Years On)

1. It Defied Cancellation (For A Short While)

It's still considered a crime against television that Farscape was cancelled amidst its fourth series. Not a single person was happy about it, and the show's creators had to swiftly re-jig series four's finale to be the show's overall closing chapter. They did a smooth job considering the circumstances, but it just didn't feel right.

Luckily, this TV-related atrocity didn't stick. The outcry was immense. So Farscape returned with one last decidedly epic hit in the form of a two-part, three hour-plus TV movie. The Peacekeeper Wars successfully realised the writers' true vision for the show's ending, and gave fans the chance to say goodbye properly. Happy endings were had. Loose ends were tied. The death of Farscape was still premature, but at least it happened on an amicable footing.

It also explains why, to this day, fans want just that little bit more from the Farscape universe. The void has been filled to an extent by comics and novels, but none of it quite hits home in the same way that a new series/movie with the original cast, writers, producers and musicians would.

Someone please pick it up! For the love of TV.
