3. Theyre Millionaires! They Dont Need a Summer Job
For the Jersey Shore gang it appears with great power comes, well, LESS responsibility. In short, the richer they got, the more ersatz their summer job at Dannys t-shirt shop seemed. It was a workable premise for the first season, given the fact that most of the cast were jobless, devoid of any real prospects and overly concentrated on their, already, overworked, appearances. The summer job is usually a staple of the college kid experience but, despite the fact that less than three of the housemates had actually finished (let alone attended) college, it still was semi-believable for the twenty-something crowd. Remember when Angelina actually got KICKED OUT of the house for not working. However, by around the third season the cast, and the audience, knew fine well their job was a tired old plot device. In-house alcoholics Snooki and Deena were routinely skiving off work, by this point, and Dannys threat of drafting in a new random roommate in Season 5 was, frankly, hilarious. Okay, whatever MTV! We all knew you probably owned Danny, his shore house and even the tacky old Shore Store. My point is the cast were now tabloid fodder, endorsement deal junkies and full-blown media whores. There was no possibly way they could hide their wealth. Maybe if MTV could have been a bit smarter at hiding it, it wouldve been more believable that Danny still had any authority over the guido eight. Once they knew they didnt really did this gig anymore, they just took the mick out of him, knowing they couldnt be fired.
