5 Times Arrowverse Threw Shade At Superman

1. Superman Ends The Never-Ending Battle When Convenient For Himself

The final goodbye scene between Clark, Lois, & Kara was The CW's closing argument to their campaign to kill interest in a Superman series. Clark reiterates yet again how much more effective Kara is before announcing Lois is pregnant and they are moving off-world to Argo City, where she will be safe from the baby having powers. Kara asks if they will be back after the baby is born, and they exchange an awkward look before Clark admits this is long term.

Clark is given the line "The world doesn't need Superman when it has Supergirl" which makes the character now embarrass himself. It ignores the essence of why Superman does what he does: because he can. Not because others can't. Just because the world has Superman, would that mean it doesn't need Batman? It is another example of the script using a reasoning limited to Superman that isn't applied to anyone else.

Further insult to injury was making him state part of his reasoning was that his new family has given him too much to live for. So...his own life is too precious to risk now? The concern regarding being absent from providing for your child is entirely understandable, but that he chose to acquiesce to that fear is not. Do police officers or soldiers quit when their family has a baby? For that matter should reporter Lois Lane, a pioneering example to girls of the last century that women can have careers, so casually abandon her career? The script could have added one or two lines showing their continued commitment to Earth, but the writers didn't give us that.

Their job was to send Superman off to live in a great alien farm upstate where he can run around and be happy. The show treats the viewers like children to whom they think they can dictate what we want and do not want. They do not want us to want Superman, and have gone out of their way to convince us.

What do you think of The CW's treatment of Superman? Do you want a Man of Steel series? Share your thoughts down in the comments.
