5 TV Couples That Elevated Shows (And 5 That Ruined It)

Mexican TV series Mi Marido Tiene Familia decided to switch things up in its second season by delving deeper into one of its supporting characters - and it was that decision that turned the show into the global phenomenon - as the introduction of newcomer Cuauhtémoc López resulted in regular Aristóteles Córcega learning new things about himself.

Ari and Temo grew incredibly close as friends before the latter confessed his love during a night out. While this prompted Ari, a social influencer, to publicly announce his support for Temo's brave decision to come out (despite much of his own family's opposition), he told him that he didn't feel the same way. However, he soon began to realise that this wasn't necessarily the case.

Throughout the season, the pair found their way to each other's hearts, as they embarked on personal journeys of self-discovery and, in the process, kick-started similar journeys for some of their own family members. The narrative stood out among the show's other storylines, as it was both compelling and educational - and yet it managed to be so in a completely natural way.

While Mi Marido Tiene Familia was always about family, the creative decision to primarily focus on a same-sex couple in Season 2 started conversations in a way that the show had never done before. As a result, 'Aristemo' took the world by storm as the show attracted a global following and even won a GLAAD award. The pair would then go on to headline their own spin-off series.
