3. Murder Most Horrid
For me, Murder Most Horrid has been Dawn Frenchs best project to date. Running for four series in the 90s, French took on the role of a different character in each episode, portraying their descent into a murderous rampage. I think what made Murder Most Horrid a unique show (particularly at the time) was that each episode was self-contained and unrelated to any others, allowing French to take on a wildly different role each time. Nine times out of ten, TV show-runners will stay far away from this method, as they see one of the greatest benefits of TV against film as being the ability to develop characters and themes in far greater depth than you can on the big screen. But when you have Dawn French and the cream of the crop when it comes to British writing talent at the time, each episode comes across as dark and disturbing as the last and still gives me the creeps on its occasional appearances on UKGold.
Ideas For A Reboot: This is one I'm really hoping one of the cable channels will bring back (like Dave did with Red Dwarf). Very little needs to change, just bring Dawn back with a good writing team and a decent-ish budget and we'd be in for a treat
