5 Ups And 2 Downs From Star Trek: Lower Decks

DOWNS

2. I Am Here For Silly, But This Is Too Silly

Lower Decks Episode 3
CBS

It's a short point this, but while I absolutely get that this is very, very silly show - and indeed am enjoying it for precisely that reason - there was just a moment in this week's episode where I briefly turned into that meme of the little girl in the car giving it the big 'Can U Not' face.

The manic shift schedule thing was funny initially, but it did not have the legs to run all the way through to the final act of the episode.

The whole crew tripping over themselves as timers screech at them? Funny! Accidentally presenting an alien race with a big horny pile of wood because you were in too much of a rush to pack the right gift? Also funny! The ship getting boarded because everyone is too busy filing reports? Ok, a bit funny, but we've done this now. That same boarding sequence playing out three times and, for some reason, nobody doing anything about it yet? We're 19 minutes in here lads, I'm sort of over this now.

All this would have taken is a quick scene where nobody can open the weapon lockers because not enough jobs have been completed yet (you're right, I am a genius), and we'd have been fine. Instead, Lower Decks beat its first dead horse this week.
