6 Alternative Musicals For People Who Don't Like Musicals

5. The Lion King (1994)

Lion King Think about it. You like Disney films don't you? You liked The Lion King. And that's because as well as having some brilliant characters (Timone & Pumba, Scar, Rafiki) and essentially being an adaption of William Shakespeare's Hamlet, it also has some of the best musical numbers any animated Disney feature has ever produced. Because really, nearly all Disney films are musicals and they're bloody good. The Lion King was the best. "'Circle of Life'. 'I Just Can't Wait To Be King'. 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight'. And of course 'Hakuna Matata'. Supported by stunning animation that holds up just as well today, these are big, catchy, emotive numbers that stick in your head. Every song is faultless. And now, in a slight reversal, we have the stage musical of The Lion King with it's fantastic costumes and musical numbers filling out seats at the West End and Broadway. In the meantime, sit back and enjoy 'Hakuna Matata' all other again. And then go and search out those other great Disney musical numbers. Because if The Lion King isn't your favourite I'm sure there's another animated musical out there that you loved as a kid (and an adult...because why should we give up on Disney films just because we grow up?)
