In the 80s few things were cooler than Max Headroom. He was an irreverent AI personality who simultaneously annoyed people and made them double over with laughter. He was the focus of an excellent cyberpunk drama (also canceled way too soon) and briefly the star of his own talk show. It was a precursor to the great Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, where Max would bombard celebrity guests with his brand of absurd humour and questioning, and said guests would either sink or swim. In between hed also toss in some music videos. Does anybody remember music videos? They were what MTV used to play before reality TV took over all the programming. Normally an argument could be made to utilise new technology and make something like Max Headroom more contemporary. No, just bring it back the way it was. The practical effects are what make the whole shtick work. Theres no sense in recasting either. Watch the 2007 Channel 4 commercial for digital switchover as proof positive that nobody can play Max Headroom except Matt Frewer. The guy has still got the goods. Max Headroom in an era where reality TV is the norm and celebs are more famous for their idiotic behaviour is a priceless concept. Imagine Max going toe-to-toe with witless celebs like Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, or the entire cast of Duck Dynasty. One can only imagine the look of bewilderment on their faces as they wrapped their minds around the fact that they were being interviewed by a talking head on a television screen. That alone is worth the price of admission.
