Episode 7, "Betrayal", follows two separate narrative strands that come together brilliantly by its conclusion. In the main story, Ethan has agreed to work alongside David Pilcher in order to maintain order in "Wayward Pines" and protect its citizens from the "terrorists" looking to escape. The episode revolves around his attempts to apprehend and incarcerate the would-be bombers. Meanwhile, his son Ben's relationship with classmate Amy continues to grow, with her eventually leading him to a private place so they can get to know one another better... Unfortunately for them both, that place ends up being the back of the very delivery truck that contains the aforementioned bomb. With Ethan in pursuit of the truck, Amy inadvertently detonates the explosive by knocking it to the floor. The truck explodes, and Ben is flung to the road. The episode concludes with Ethan begging Ben to wake up (and most viewers hoping that he doesn't, given that his storyline is undoubtedly the show's weakest element). Sadly, Episode 8 quickly establishes that Ben has not only survived the blast, but he has also woken from his coma almost instantaneously. Ah well, it was nice while it lasted!
