6 Reasons Community Was Just Cancelled

2. Season 5 Was Too Little, Too Late

As we all know, Dan Harmon was reinstated as showrunner along with former exec/writer Chris McKenna for the fifth season, reinvigorating the series and injecting it with new creative life. Many critics and fans hailed the final season as a return to form, which was likely partly due to Harmon's self-assigned pressure to make sure that he didn't waste a shot to return to his creation that he thought might never come again. Alas, season 4 left such a bad taste in some people's mouths that Community was forever tainted, and the ratings still floundered around 2-3 million even as the show experienced some of its most creative and emotional successes. In the end, though, they weren't enough to save it from the axe and Community was blighted by just too many problems to make it worth saving - at least from NBC's perspective.
