6 Reasons Why You Need To Watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

6. Voice Acting

In the history of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the voice acting has always been a little questionable. The latest downloadable videogame for example, Out of the Shadows, contains possibly the worst Raphael voice of all time. It's the same case with the 2003 cartoon as well. For too long now, the Turtles haven't been portrayed very well by various voice actors. Thankfully though, it's a completely different case with the new show. The creators have finally discovered the perfect voices for all characters, especially the Turtles. It's even beyond the standard quality seen in some kids shows, and it boasts a decent selection of actors, such as Jason Biggs (American Pie), Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings), Mae Whitman (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) and Kelly Hu (Arrow). It's a pleasant surprise actually, as voice actors perfectly nail the characterisations throughout the entire show. Biggs is a spot on choice for Leonardo, and Astin arguably provides the best voice for Raphael to date. Rob Paulsen lends his voice to Donatello this time, which is admittedly a slightly better fit than his 1987 Raphael. One of the favoured voices on the show however, is up and coming voice actor Greg Cipes, who voices the charismatic idiot, Michelangelo. It's not just the Turtles that have perfect voice actors, but even the secondary characters. Mae Whitman (her?) is a fitting April O'Neil, as is Hoon Lee in his role as Splinter. Of course, the show is rife with voice acting veterans, but it also includes the likes of the great Jeffrey Combs, Corey Feldman and even Josh Peck (not forgetting Nolan North, because a cartoon or videogame can't escape his clutches apparently). It's worth seeking out the first Slash episode too, purely for Corey Feldman's fitting portrayal of the character. There's a great deal of thought that's been put into finding the right voice actors for the many roles, and it arguably boasts the best selection of voice actors in animation at the moment. Even if some characters aren't really that prominent throughout the series, the creators of the show still manage to find a respected voice actor for them, which is clearly a testament to the great care taken with the cartoon.
