6 Reasons Why You Need To Watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

5. The Villains

Even without the classic Bebop and Rocksteady, the cartoon boasts a fantastic roster of villains. There are plenty of new faces that turn up throughout the series, and there are a few imaginative redesigns of old favourites, such as Rahzar, whose appearance is drastically different from his pathetic live-action counterpart. One of the many delights in the show, are the fantastic Kraang. They're a new amalgam of the Utroms from the 2003 series, and the classic alien overlord in the 1987 cartoon, Krang. They are inextricably intertwined with the Turtles' origin in this cartoon, becoming the sole reason for their transformation (as we're lead to believe). The Kraang are played as the comedic relief in the show, due to their ineptitude and manner of speech, as they often talk in redundant, repetitive terms. There are some great additions alongside the Kraang, such as Fishface and Dogpound, Shredder's two main lackeys. They're essentially the equivalent of Bebop and Rocksteady; two imbeciles that are hardly a formidable threat to the Turtles. The same can be said for Baxter Stockman, who is also the creator of the Mousers in this universe. Of course, there are a countless number of enemies that turn up throughout the cartoon, as it needs to meet the demands of the massively popular toy line. Thankfully though, almost each villain in the show has their own persona. There's actually some thought that's been put into their design and origin, and at times their ooze transformations are pretty damn horrific. Snakeweed and the Pulveriser are perfect examples of what horrors the mutagenic ooze can create. Honestly though, there's a vast range of villains to enjoy, and sometimes a character lends itself to an enjoyable homage of some sort. The Squirrelanoids in the second season were essentially villains inspired by the Aliens franchise, and it made for a great episode full of scares. The rogues gallery in the latest Turtles cartoon may just turn out to be the best yet, if characters such as Slash and Rahzar keep cropping up in later seasons.
