1. Friends Came First
There has been an overarching theme throughout this list: everything about the two series when summed up is so similar. There is always an equivalent between the two, from which characters are alike to basic sitcom storyline ideas to babies and parents to location. When most of these formulae were set by Friends, it would have to be an absolutely magnificent series that can twist all these ideas back again in order to topple it as the king of comedies, and How I Met Your Mother, while fun, is not original enough to replace Friends' place in people's hearts. The only chance it has left is to subvert typical finale expectations when it finally comes to a close.
