6 Reasons You Need To Watch Big Mouth

5. Unique Sense Of Humor

Big Mouth
Netflix

On the outset, you'd be forgiven for thinking Big Mouth's entire comedic shtick is pure shock and gross-out humor. And yes, that's certainly an aspect of the show in some respects. That's kind of hard to avoid when making a series about the grossest time in everyone's life. However, past the erection jokes, microwave-heated lentil soup (for depraved purposes), and talking genitalia voiced by Kristen Wiig (no, you didn't misread that), the show actually has a great deal of weapons in its comedic arsenal.

What works about Big Mouth's comedy is how fast-paced and reality-breaking it is. Relying on rapid-fire punchlines and messing of the show's internal logic (or lack thereof), the show is able to move gracefully from one laugh to the next.

With regards to that logic, the setting has a... flexible reality, to say the least. With fourth wall breaks, objects inexplicably talking, characters breaking into song, and brand new supernatural elements being introduced without context or warning, Big Mouth uses the fact that it's animated for all its advantage. It's the kind of devil-may-care attitude toward a show's "rules" that allows it to feel vibrant and spontaneous.
