6 Things Community Needs To Do If They Get Season 6
5. Forget About Donald Glover
Donald Glover, who plays Troy Barnes, was an original Study Group member who recently departed the show to focus on his rap career as the Childish Gambino and other acting opportunities. As part of the duo of "Troy and Abed" Glover had been a hilarious cog in the wheel of the show, especially for many of the episode "tags" at the end of each episode. The character of Troy has had a strange journey, however. Starting off originally an intended: a dim-witted high school football jock with a chip on his shoulder, Troy has devolved over the years after seemingly catching the "Buddy Lembeck Disease" (becoming more and more stupid as the series progresses). Although Troy would have some of the best one-liners and Glover would often nail the delivery, his character became someone who would say something really stupid and freak out and cry a lot. At the same time we also would have believe that he was mature and honest enough to date Britta and look after Abed. Part of the "Troy and Abed" charm were their similar nerd qualities, like their love of Batman, and their fun-loving antics. Too many times it turned into playing make-believe and Troy displaying the mind of an actual child, not just a man-child. When Troy would then show glimpses of maturity or genuine emotion the two parts of Troy never seemed to jive. It was too far a stretch. Making small references to Troy on a news scroll or the blackboard is a funny way to keep his spirit around but now that Troy is effectively away from Greendale and Glover is moving on, the show is rolling on nicely without him. Despite losing a one-liner or two, the show does not need to try and bring him back for a sixth season. It has also been nice to see Abed try to adapt and find his way without his best friend. Leave Troy and Glover behind for the sixth season and bring him back for the movie.
