6 Things Community Needs To Do If They Get Season 6

2. Find Happy Medium For The Dean

It's not easy to re-cork a bottle. And that's what season five is seemingly trying to do with the Dean, played brilliantly by Jim Rash. After a hilarious slow burn first season, where the exasperated Dean of Greedale slowly morphs into a sexually confused man with a dalmatian fetish, the Dean character went off the rails. Soon the Dean was wearing all manner of silly costumes and outfits, usually women's clothing, and it became a crutch to lean on instead of developing the character. Not long after that, his obvious crush on Jeff became less amusing and more uncomfortable with every look or lingering touch. Season four even went so far as to show the Dean moving into Jeff's apartment building but perhaps thankfully, that story line never really went anywhere. So far in season five, however, the Dean has been completely dialed back. The meter has gone so far back the other way that the character now suffers from under-exposure. When he has been shown he has a bit more of a sinister undertone that may play out as the rest of the season unfolds but, providing Rash comes back for a sixth season, Harmon and the writers need to find a happy medium between what he has been this season and the creep he had become. Whether Rash's schedule isn't as open, the writer's don't have ideas, or they are intentionally trying to reset the character, something has to be done to utilize Rash's unique and unmatched skills if the show gets picked up for next year.
