6 Things Community Needs To Do If They Get Season 6

3. Keep John Oliver And Jonathan Banks

Even though John Oliver, as very British and often very drunk Professor Duncan, wasn't a main star in the first two seasons of Community, he always seemed to nail whatever role and scene he was in. His character was critical to Jeff Winger's eventually character transformation since the pilot and was perfect as the make-shift Anthropolgy teacher in season two. When Duncan ran out of the classroom near the end of season two and didn't come back the glaring hole his absence left was eventually felt in the next couple of seasons. Especially during the darkest points of the "Gas-Leak Year" fans wondered if John Oliver's return would have helped saved the season. Fans got their wish this year as Oliver signed back on to play the popular professor in a handful of episodes. This turned out to be great news indeed as he has already provided several great scenes with Jeff, the Dean, Britta and Annie. After Chevy Chase left during season four and with him took a history of baggage with creator Harmon and the rest of the cast, crew, and studio, fans wondered who could fill the void. Would it be Fred Willard to play the same character as Pierce and pretend Chase wasn't gone? Would it be Leonard, to just fill the roll of an old guy that Jeff didn't always like? Or someone new? Turns out the chair spot was given to Jonathan Banks to play the character of Professor Hickey, a former cop turned bitter teacher who needs the Save Greendale Committee to help lighten him up after a lifetime of hurt. Seems heavy but somehow it works. Banks has been perfect as the sometimes wise but always curmudgeonly addition to the cast, quickly forming intriguing bonds with Annie, Britta, and now Abed. If Community moves forward into another season it is imperative that they find a way to keep both of these cast members around. With Glover and Chase gone the show needs balance and stability around the study room table and utilizing the skills of both an old cast member in Oliver and new in Banks is key to a successful sixth season.
