2. Mia Farrow Didn't Think Peyton Place Would Be So Successful, And Soon Wanted Out

There appeared to be a number of factors behind Mia Farrow's eventual departure from hit ABC soap opera Peyton Place back in 1966.

On top of her then-husband Frank Sinatra reportedly not being all that happy about the idea of his 21-year-old wife having an acting career, Farrow would reveal in her memoirs that the all-round success the show quickly went on to have caught her a little off-guard, too.

In fact, the young star was so shocked by how unexpectedly successful the series was shaping up to be out of the gates, she was said to have actually tried to get out of her deal straight after it first landed on screens.

Farrow was initially unsuccessful in her attempts to be free of the Peyton Place attention. But Sinatra ultimately urged producers to write her out of the programme two years into her contract during the summer of '66, with the character of Rachel Welles (played by Leigh Taylor-Young) replacing Farrow's Allison MacKenzie from there on out.

Refusing to stay away from the business for too long, though, Farrow eventually went on to star in the critical and commercial smash hit that was Rosemary's Baby in '68. But Sinatra was so aggravated by the fact his wife couldn't star in his The Detective movie due to Rosemary's Baby running over schedule, that he eventually sent her divorce papers that she signed through "a blur of tears" on set.
