6 Ups & 1 Down From Doctor Who Series 12 - Spyfall Part 1

Ups...

6. The Misgendered Doctor Conversation Finally Happened

The Doctor Spyfall Doctor Who

Once the possessed MI6 car had failed in killing the Doctor and her companions, the team finally made their way to MI6. Whilst meeting Stephen Fry's C, he assumes that Graham is indeed The Doctor, since all records of The Doctor up to this point had described the Time Lord as 'Male.' Stepping in to correct C was the real Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, who definitely isn't male in appearance. This conversation was sure to come up at some point in Who. As soon as the world discovered Whittaker was taking over, we were all anticipating the moment when someone with past knowledge of The Doctor, came face to face with her.

C, corrected in his assumption, continues discussion with the real Doctor, completely accepting the fact that things have changed, and the records should ideally be updated. C could have stuck to his guns and ignored The Doctor revealing her identity, brushing it off and assuming she's lying because the book didn't say The Doctor was female, but he went along with it regardless. Whether this was just the nature of the character of C going with what he's told- he is way out of his depth since aliens are involved, or whether this is a commentary on how people should have reacted to Whittaker's casting, either way, this eventual conversation was tastefully done.
