Series 11 was crafted in such a way for it to be an easy starting point for potential new fans of the series. All new monsters, all new cast, all new creative team, it was a full regeneration of the show. By the series end, it really felt as if the show was in a bubble. However, come Series 12, the windows are open, and echoes of the past are starting to seep in.

It's not often MI6 are involved in alien encounters in Great Britain, but they're now tasked with dealing with these alien threats because no-one else will. UNIT and Torchwood were both name-dropped as defunct alien-fighting organisations, much to fan's delight. Though neither Captain Jack Harkness nor Kate Stewart booted down the door and arrived to help out MI6, even the mention of their respective organisations opens the door for hopefully more to come. Chibnall doesn't have his fingers in his ears regarding the rest of the Whoniverse any more.
