4. Yaz Recognises Her Mortality

It's not often that companions really take a step back and see just how close to death they come, at least not to the point where they almost break down. Companions of Who past have left the TARDIS based on the fact that sometimes things get too real, look at Tegan handing back her key at the conclusion of Resurrection of the Daleks. After being attacked by one of the glowing alien spy creatures, Yaz finds herself amidst an alien forest of-sorts. Not long later, she swaps places with another alien capture by The Doctor, Graham, and O, and she reveals to Ryan that she was convinced she was dead.

Will this change Yaz's approach to dangerous situations in the future? Has this moment of Ryan reaching out to his friend as a means of support begun a more established relationship between two characters who, up to this point, had very little in common aside from being at school together and both travelling with The Doctor? We'll have to see.

Even though Yaz was quite happily grinning away whilst riding a motorcycle and being shot at only a scene later.
