6 Ups & 1 Down From Doctor Who Series 12 - Spyfall Part 1

2. Sacha Dhawan's Master Reveal

The Master Spyfall Doctor Who
BBC

Now this is not something we were expecting. Sacha Dhawan was last seen in the wider Whoniverse playing the first Director of Doctor Who in 1963, Waris Hussein, in the exceptional An Adventure In Space And Time in 2013. It surely wouldn't have been long before Dhawan would appear in the series itself, but no-one expected as to who he would play. After being introduced as the clever but slightly bumbling O, after incorrectly citing his backstory, The Doctor realised this O was not who he said he was.

He then reveals himself to be The Master, who was last seen killing themselves/each other in The Doctor Falls. Dhawan's performance blends an evil mix of John Simm's Master, Michelle Gomez's Missy, and a dash of Andrew Scott's Moriarty from Sherlock. As to where this Master sits in the chronology of the character, we are yet to discover. Has Missy's redemption arc over Series 10 been retconned, or is this a pre-Missy Master? Only time will tell.

However, there is one huge detail about this reveal that makes it all the better...
