6 Ups & 1 Down From Doctor Who Series 12 - Spyfall Part 1

1. The BBC Actually Kept It All A Secret

When John Simm reprised his role as The Master in Series 10's World Enough And Time, the moment he dropped the disguise he wore throughout most of the episode should have been a huge surprise- except we already knew John Simm was back because the BBC announced it before it aired. There were correct rumours circulating of his return at the time, but rather than keeping their mouths shut and keeping it as somewhat of a surprise, it was revealed for all to see, and the potential fanfare fell flat.

However, not only was The Master's return outright kept a secret, we didn't even know Sacha Dhawan was involved in Doctor Who whatsoever. We only knew of Stephen Fry and Lenny Henry's involvement in Spyfall. When O was introduced and was being played by a big name, something was definitely afoot, yet no-one expected The Master of all people to return so soon. As said, we'll see how well things pan out regarding how this character is back, but until then, relish in the fact that the BBC kept something as huge as this a secret- and let's hope there are more mind-blowing surprises on the horizon.
