7 Actors Who Hated Being On Doctor Who

Comedian Peter Kay has only appeared in Doctor Who once, and unfortunately for him, his episode is one of the most hated 45 minutes in the history of the show.

Love & Monsters was broadcast in 2006, the tenth episode of David Tennant's debut series. It's a Doctor-lite story that follows ordinary British citizen Elton Pope, a man who - along with a group of fellow fanatics - is determined to track down the Doctor.

Over the years, the story has been bashed for its uninteresting characters, its tasteless sense of humour, and for Kay's performance as the villainous Abzorbaloff, an alien that absorbs the bodies and memories of its victims. And it's not just the fans that have a distaste for the episode - Kay himself does too.

In an interview with The Express, Kay revealed that the one main regret of his career is his Doctor Who role, with the actor not exactly providing a glowing assessment of his episode: "I’m a big green lizard running around Cardiff? Is that it?"

He also added that Love & Monsters "is regarded by fans as the worst episode ever", and he clearly isn't too chuffed with the end result. Neither are we, Pete.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
