7 Actors Who Hated Being On The Walking Dead
5. Jeffrey DeMunn - Dale Horvath
Dale was one of the only characters on the show to have 0 kills under his belt.
Being the moral compass of the group, the senior gentleman repeatedly butted heads with Shane and Rick over what to do about the farm, and especially over the treatment of the prisoner Randall. He met his gruesome demise at the hands of a walker freed by Carl, and was put out of his misery by Daryl, with the now iconic line, "Sorry, brother".
Though the character survived much longer in the comics, his role was largely taken by Bob Stookey in later seasons, even meeting the same fate at the hands of the Hunters.
But the actor himself wanted out.
Jeffrey DeMunn was a good friend of the shows original developer Frank Darabont, clearly made evident by his other roles in projects like The Mist, The Green Mile, and the world's favourite movie, The Shawshank Redemption.
After Frank was controversially fired by AMC during the filming period of Season 2, Jeffrey asked for his character to be killed off, as he didn't want to be in the show after his friend was no longer at the reigns. If that's not loyalty, nothing is
. Though it was later revealed that he changed his mind at the last minute, it was still too late for the lovable gent.
