7 Actors Who Hated Being On The Walking Dead
3. Tom Payne - Paul 'Jesus' Rovia
This was probably one of the most impactful deaths on the show.
Introduced to us in Season 6, Jesus fast became a character fans adored for his appearance and fighting skills, and he was the reason the Alexandrians met the Hilltop Colony, and ultimately was the vector for the world of the Walking Dead to expand. It was also through his death that we were introduced to the unsettling Whisperers, but fans were shocked and saddened to see him die.
Tom Payne, however, was happy with the way his character left the show, and also how he was introduced. The downside was, he pretty much hated everything in between.
Feeling like he was being underutilised and fading into the background, Tom requested to leave, saying to Hollywood Reporter that he was hoping Jesus had more to do. He begged producers and writers to do more shocking and horrific stuff, but the real waste of the iconic character was that he paled in comparison to his comic counterpart. Tom had taken martial arts training especially for the show, and never really got to show it off.
He said he enjoyed some parts of his time with the cast and crew, saying that the introduction and ending of his life was enough for him.
