7 Awesome TV Shows That Won't Return Until 2019
3. Fargo
Fargo is another show to have already developed an odd release pattern, with Season 3 arriving in 2017 after a year off, while Season 2 started 18 months after the first.
The third season of Noah Hawley's 'true story', inspired by the Coen brothers' movie of the same name, wasn't quite as great as its predecessors, but was still a worthy new chapter into the Fargo book.
It was expected a fourth season would happen, since the show gets decent ratings and performs well at awards shows, and FX chairman John Landgraf confirmed as much at the TCA press tour in California last week, saying: "It’s not gone. Noah Hawley, who has become quite a busy bee… has told us that he has an idea that excited me enormously for a fourth cycle of Fargo and the plan is to have that ready in 2019. The anticipation is there will be another cycle of Fargo in 2019.”
Hawley, who is also working on the second season of Legion (which will arrive this year), joked: "I’m finally doing the Space Station Fargo, it’s going to be amazing."
More seriously, he added: "Unfortunately, I can’t really tell you anything about that... It’s still early for me. I really love that world. But it’s still very much a question for me of making sure there’s something left to say about it, and balancing tone. I never want it to be something that people go, ‘Oh that thing, it’s the accents and the funny crime show.’ Yeah, it’s still very much a work in progress.”
