7 Best Spider-Man TV Shows

1. Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994-1998)

Pound for pound, there's no real debate that Spider-Man: The Animated Series is the best consistent depiction of everyone's favourite wallcrawling friend. The series had just the right mix of short episodic plots, with long-arching season sub-plots that rounded up each individual season nicely into a themed structure. One thing you see in all of the Spider-Man shows is each episode featuring a different villain, before moving on. However, Spider-Man: TAS breaks that in many ways with it's double parters, and sometimes triple-part episodes that allowed the show to be more engaging and unabridged. Spider-Man: TAS also had a mix of important major villains like Green Goblin, and Dr.Octopus, and minor villains like The Spot, and Kraven the Hunter. It delved quite deeply into the pool of Marvel, even featuring obscure characters like The Prowler, or Hammerhead. Allies from the likes of X-men, The Fantastic Four, Daredevil, or even Blade also make appearances. In it's overall story it loosely adheres to the overall story of The Amazing Spider-Man's continuity, while jumping back and forth for particular storylines. In addition to it's well-written story Spider-Man: TAS had some good voice-acting, and some fairly timeless animation, that doesn't look particularly bad even by today's standards. It's lengthy run of 5 seasons, compiling over 60 episodes allowed the show to develop it's own style. The whole thing just felt completely well-rounded, and complete. It even had 2 feature length films, sometimes split into episodes in order to give the show a proper send-off. Spider-Man the animated series set the bar for animation shows based on comics, along with DC's Batman: The Animated Series, and hasn't been surpassed since.
