"Baelor" was a big episode for Game of Thrones, and it is mostly remembered for ending with the execution of Ned Stark. However, at Castle Black in the far north, Jon Snow is facing a crisis of his own, having tried to desert the Night's Watch to join Robb, who has called his banners. Retrieved by his friends before it is too late to return, Jon is summoned to speak with Maester Aemon. Jon is still in his Season 1 petulant stage, and when he denies that anyone could understand what he was going through with the news of Ned's arrest and Robb's march, the maester reveals a terrible truth about himself: before he was Maester Aemon, he was Aemon Targaryen. He outdoes Jon's woes, telling of his helplessness at the massacre of his entire family...and how he chose to stay and do his duty.
Fiction buff and writer. If it's on Netflix, it's probably in my queue. I've bought DVDs for the special features and usually claim that the book is better than the movie or show (and can provide examples). I've never met a TV show that I won't marathon. Follow on Twitter @lah9891 .
