What can you say about a man who betrays his closest friend and attempts to murder him in order to take his family? Sure, to begin with Shanes only got the best of intentions. With the advent of the zombie apocalypse coinciding with Ricks coma, the best friend and partner of our hero stepped up to look after his buddys wife and son. Things between Shane and Lori became a little closer than they should have done but Rick was dead, right? Of course not. And with Ricks return, and Lori rejecting Shane in favour of her husband and to reunite her family, Shane began to turn sour. It gradually became clear that Ricks partner wasnt as morally stable as Rick himself (yet another good reason for Lori not to choose him, really). Increasingly bitter and resentful of Ricks place as leader of the group and in Lori and Carls life, Shane is even more adversely affected by the brutality and terror of the post-apocalyptic world than the others in their group, becoming the antagonist towards the end of season two when he takes it upon himself to stand against his childhood friend Rick, convinced that Rick doesnt have the stomach to lead or to protect Lori and Carl. Initially warm towards Shane and sympathetic towards the position he found himself in, audiences grew more hostile towards him as he grew more aggressive and antagonistic exactly as the shows productions team and creative staff had intended. Our next entry, however, was a little different
