7. It Can't Live Up To The Original
True Detective's first season was hailed as a masterpiece of atmosphere, fragmented storytelling and visual impact. It's breathtaking look and feel - courtesy of Cary Fukunga's inspired directing - aligned with a chilling, dramatic, and ultimately optimistic storyline to create one of the most unique shows of its highly-populated genre. Simply put, season two has a great deal to live up to, and it probably can't. The series' newcomer's advantages are gone, meaning it now has to generate interest entirely under its own esteem. The decision to start all over again, ditching the initial cast and setting in favour of a whole new direction, is a huge gamble - one which could prove to be a serious mistake.
