7 Reasons To Watch The Strain On FX

2. Javier Botet

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1UY_j-pIAc Javier Botet is a Spanish actor who suffers from a rare congenital condition called Marfan Syndrome, which can produce anomalies in the skeletal system including growing to above-average height with disproportionately long and slender limbs. He's forged a career by making some terrifying appearances in horror films such as REC and Mama (where he played a nightmarish female figure in each). If you've seen the test footage of him in Mama, you'll agree it's far more frightening than the actual movie itself. The on-screen presentation of his titular character was muddled with so much unimpressive CGI that it detracted from the scariness seen in the test footage. When it comes to monsters, oftentimes traditional makeup and prosthetics can be far more effective than CGI. A great example of this is the change in appearance between the orcs of the original Lord of the Rings trilogy and the computer-rendered orcs of the more recent Hobbit movies. Botet's unique talents would be a welcome addition to the vampire world and his rumored casting in The Strain will only serve to heighten the show's creep factor.
