7 Reasons Why Avatar: The Last Airbender Is The Most Complete TV Show Ever
4. Perfectly Fleshed Out Characters
It may have been a decade since the show ended, but its characters remain some of the most popular ever.
For a moment we can even ignore the fan favourite leads and look to the minor players and how much people have come to adore them. Suki stands as a paragon of challenging gender norms and never losing hope or courage no matter how much she suffers; Teo provides a strong disabled protagonist and the show did so without any special abilities or powers. Further still, countless others from the Earth King to the Order of the White Lotus kept the audience on the edge of their seats with their constantly evolving bravery and wit.
As for the main cast - where to even begin? Toph’s indomitable fighting spirit, interspersed by excellent dry humor; Sokka’s battle to overcome both personal and external obstacles to become the best version of himself; Katara’s journey of balancing idealism with the need to act according to the situation, Zuko becoming a living embodiment of the redemption arc and finally Aang - he may be one of the most beloved lead protagonists ever, but one of the reasons for that is his admittedly imperfect dedication.
The young Air Nomad was the purest of heart, but he was shy of taking responsibility and giving up his own comforts. It was only after seeing the devastation that came about following his absence that the true hero in him awakens. The Last Airbender doesn’t just follow people doing amazing things, it shows how these people came to do such amazing things.
