6. Drama and Comedy
Drama and Comedy so often used to be completely separate entities. The West Wing is a classic example of expertly utilising both moments of comedy and drama in order to maximize the viewing experience. The subject of the West Wing is naturally a very dry area; this is why the use of scattered comedy was vital to its entertainment value. The range of emotions brought out by the West Wing is surprising for a series based around the White House staff. Some of my favourite moments are the more comedic ones, Ill never forget President Bartlet's staff meeting while spaced out on medication or Joshs first meeting with the deaf pollster Joey Lucas. Just in the same way that I will never forget the moving moments such as the series 3 finale backed by Jeff Buckleys Hallelujah or Leo's Funeral in the final series.
