7 Reasons You Should Watch Mr. Robot Right Now
2. Rami Malek
Before Mr. Robot it's highly unlikely that you had ever seen Rami Malek onscreen, let alone heard his name. If you had seen him in a film it would have most probably been in the mediocre Night at the Museum franchise, a fleeting role in the impressive drama film, Short Term 12, or a part in the last Twilight movie (but don't hold that against him). If you are worried that there isn't enough star power to entice you, never fear, because instead you'll see a star be born in front of your eyes, which is more exciting anyway (failing that Christian Slater is more well known, and is also delightful in the show).
In case you do need some convincing though, Rami Malek deservedly won an Emmy for his outstanding performances in the show earlier this year. With so many incredible television programmes and double the amount of amazing performances in them, an Emmy Award is arguably more difficult to win than an Oscar these days.
The show lives and dies by Malek's performances, and thankfully so far Mr. Robot has lived, and lived well. Right from the opening scene of the pilot episode he is engaging as he directly addresses the viewer, otherwise known as his imaginary friend, and you are pulled into his world to see how he interacts with the host of other brilliant actors on display. You will be won over by what must frankly be an exhausting performance, with the confused, wide-eyed, jittery, hyperactive, anxiety-ridden, at times accidentally (on purpose) funny portrayal of a man who is ultimately a tortured soul. If for no other reason, tune into Mr. Robot to sample a revelation of a young actor who is one of the most exciting in the world right now.
