7 Shocking TV Moments That Changed Everything

4. Twin Peaks - The Murderer is Revealed!

If you haven't seen this show... and you really, really, really should watch it, and you don't want to biggest spoiler in TV history to be revealed to you (that will spoil the show for you) I suggest you skip forward to the next page now... For those that have stayed (I am hoping you have all seen this show) the fourteenth episode of the shows second season, "Lonely Souls" is one of the greatest pieces of television artistry I have ever seen, and is probably the most iconic episode from the early 90's. Laura Palmer, the girl whose death Agent Cooper had been investigating for almost two whole seasons is finally revealed to the audience, and boy is it a good reveal. Turns out, her Dad did it... but it is A LOT more complicated than that. He was possessed by a strange evil spirit that lived in Twin Peaks called Bob. The audience finds this out before anyone in the town does, and we witness Leland Palmer murder Laura's cousin (who was played by the same actress) in one of the most horrifically frightening scenes I have ever witnessed on screen. Honestly, if you are reading this and you haven't seen the show, start it now so you can watch this one episode around Halloween... it is much more frightening than any film you could see. The reason this episode changed everything is because after this, the entire momentum of the show was different and unfortunately for the worse. There was no longer any plan and the show kind of fell to pieces just a little (there were still great moments mind you) with nothing to keep you watching. I will say however that David Lynch's original plan of never revealing who the murderer was stupid, and I would have been angry if this episode had never happened. The show could have easily continued had Lynch had thought up another great mystery to explore, but all the stories that came after this episode and the episode were Leland died, were kind of lame- although the shows finale at the end of this season was really entertaining, and worth viewing just to see this.
