7 Things Fans Couldn’t Get Enough Of In Seinfeld

4. "Newman!"

Kramer, Seinfeld
NBC

For the less Seinfeld-savvy reader, this selection may sound like Marvel are getting sloppy in their attempts to fill another phase of Marvel Cinematic wonderment. But Newman is actually one of Seinfeld’s longest running gags, most beloved characters and certainly a fan favourite.

Every person has a friend who is teetering on the edge of being too extra-terrestrial to handle. Newman is the friend of that friend that is actually too bizarre to deal with.

Newman, played by Wayne Knight, is Jerry’s long-time arch nemesis and friend of Kramer. Despite Jerry’s insurmountable hatred of Newman- Jerry only ever uttering his name through clenched teeth- Newman and Jerry’s feud is never truly outlined beyond subtle references, which of course makes the whole thing funnier.

Newman’s ludicrously poetic outbursts, often comparable with a 1950s TV version of the Joker, make him the perfect side kick for Kramer’s crazy capers.

In Bizarro World, maybe Newman and Jerry would have been friends. But that would certainly have been less enjoyable for fans.
