7 Things Fans Couldn’t Get Enough Of In Seinfeld

1. The Parents

Kramer, Seinfeld
Sony Pictures TV

Although we do meet Kramer’s mother in “The Switch”, it sometimes seems that had TV Executives decided to do a Kramer spin-off/origin story, the reality of his background would be beyond the realms of even the greatest science fiction writers.

It’s fair to say that the parents in Seinfeld (especially George’s) do explain a lot. Jerry’s somewhat chaotic and worrisome parents are fairly traditional parental figures, wanting the best for their son but often complicating Jerry’s plans in conjunction with Jerry’s Uncle Leo (who deserves an honorary mention here as one of the show’s most entertaining yet sporadic side characters).

But it is the Costanzas that Seinfeld fans always want more of. Frank and Estelle Costanza (played by Jerry Stiller and Estelle Harris) are the neurotic, volatile almost otherworldly parents of George. To say that his behavioural defects and poor life choices are directly related to his parents and upbringing is an understatement of epic proportions. The Costanzas are to George’s hilariously misguided tribulations what Dominic Cummings was to Brexit.

The parents in Seinfeld give fans insight into where these four beloved characters, and their eccentricities come from. Except perhaps for Kramer. He is from another universe surely.
