7 TV Comedies Led By Women That Totally Nailed It

3. Awkward

Ever had this moment where you're sitting in a coffee place, having a fight with your boyfriend, and your ex walks in, with a huge grin on his face? Well that's Awkward. Now imagine that you're 15 years old. Almost everything is awkward. And if you were ever a teenage girl, you know that feeling all too well. Lauren Lungerich created the sitcom "Awkward." for MTV, and even if you're not 15 anymore, you can still relate to it on a very personal level. Ashley Rickards stars as Jenna Hamilton, the sitcom's main character. Jenna is an unpopular 15 year-old from Palos Verdes, California. When the student body mistakes an accident she has for a suicide attempt, she gains immediate, yet unwanted, popularity at her high school. Smart and witty Jenna doesn't discourage, and by making changes and embracing her misfortune, she becomes well-known to her peers through her blog. The Washington Post wrote: "The swift pacing and simplicity of Awkward remind us that awkwardness can still be freshly painful and funny material, so long as there are still teenagers and high schools". And let me add that sarcastic and self aware acting, combined with the lack of preaching, makes for a very well put together 30 minutes.
