7 TV Shows With Near-Perfect Endings

6. King Of The Hill

The Leftovers Finale
Fox

Throughout King of the Hill's run, fans were never really sure what the final episode would entail. Would Hank finally let loose and drop the stoic act? Would Dale Gribble finally discover the paternity of his son Joseph? Or would sad-sack Bill finally get the happiness he deserved?

For a show that was about the mundanity of living in urban Texas, the series never wandered away from reality and it could be argued that a live-action depiction of the series would have just been equally fulfilling. So, a finale for the show had to contain something inflated or dramatic to give it a grandiose send-off, right?

Instead the show ends on a fitting and touching note, focussing on one core relationship that has played out through the entire series. Hank and his son Bobby had never really found anything in common, so it amazes Hank when he discovers his son has a unique pallet for the perfection of steaks and grilling. Across a series of hijinks, the final scene of the series shows Hank proudly grilling a barbecue with his son, while all the residents on the block come to join them for a get-together.

To a casual viewer it could just be the end to another episode, but in reality, this is the start of a new relationship dynamic for Bobby and Hank, all the while Peggy watches them warmly as she realises the two men in her life finally have something they can share with one another.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
