7 TV Shows With Near-Perfect Endings
1. The Leftovers
For a series as critically acclaimed as HBO's The Leftovers, it's quite rare to encounter someone who stuck with it right to the very end. With a depressing first season, it was a series that turned its audiences off with its nihilistic and confusing narrative. But like many good shows, stick with it and you'll come across one of the most beautifully acted, written and executed series that HBO ever produced.
The show picks up three years after an unexplained phenomenon where 7% of the world's population vanished (imagine a baby-Thanos snap!) and the lives of a small family living in rural New York. The series had it all; sinister chain-smoking cultists, an Australian sex cruise and a limbo you can only escape if you sing a Simon & Garfunkel song.
While audiences were asking what happened to the 7% of people who disappeared, the show vehemently told us that the mystery of where everyone went didn't matter, and instead concluded on a much more personal and touching note.
The show's two leads, Kevin Garvey and Nora Durst, reunite many years in the future following Nora's did-she-didn't-she trip to where the missing people went, and after a brief story of how she returned, what really mattered about the show was the love story between two damaged people, and their affection for one another. If you do choose to dive into the series, get a big box of tissues ready as you're sure to tear up almost every episode.
