8 Ways Better Call Saul Can Bring Breaking Bad Characters Back

1. Walter White Heisenberg is dead. If there€™s anything the extensive post-mortem on Breaking Bad has confirmed it€™s that Albuquerque€™s premiere meth peddler did indeed bite the desert dust, taking a round to the side from his own automated machine-gun in the show€™s final episode. Also, with his rise and fall and (semi-, hemi-, demi-)redemption more or less accounted for, it€™s difficult to see exactly what Walter White's inclusion in Better Call Saul would lend to the show, apart from fan service. That being said, Walt€™s reign still casts a shadow over the whole series that follows it - his name appears in this article a darn sight more than Saul/Jimmy€™s. Furthermore, what Better Call Saul€™s inclusion of secondary characters, like Tuco, mostly does is serve to remind us that the man in the pork pie hat is out there somewhat - or at least he will be. That doesn't necessarily demand further breakfasts with a younger Skyler and lil€™ Walt Jr. - however cute/heart-breaking that might be - but something€™s in order, right? There are certainly a few ways Better Call Saul could pay homage to the erstwhile anti-hero without overwhelming its new narrative. Picture this: Saul Goodman in an Omaha bar; breaking news on TV: ABQ's No. 1 fugitive is dead; a shot of a body bag being wheeled past on a gurney; Saul raises a reluctant toast: good night, Walter. Obviously Better Call Saul deserves chance to get going before putting the final nail in Breaking Bad€™s coffin, but this would certainly be one way of doing it. Of course, who knows what the past/present/future holds. Vince Gilligan is rarely so predictable. It€™s to his credit that, despite Better Call Saul being mainly a prequel, we have no idea where the show will end up. Maybe Jimmy€™ll defend poor old Wendy from a solicitation rap. Maybe he€™ll pop down the DMV and pick up an actual receptionist, the long-suffering Francesca. But what do you think? Head to the comments and have your say.
