7 Ways To Bring Firefly Back

5. As A Spin-Off

Firefly has a vast under-explored universe that presents a myriad of possibilities for storytelling beyond the adventures of Captain Mal Reynolds and his "Big Damn Heroes". Taking the lead from Caprica and the recently announced Breaking Bad spin-off, Better Call Saul, a Firefly spin-off could take the form of a prequel exploring the war between the Alliance and The Independents, it could be about a memorable incidental character such as Bounty Hunter Jubal Early, or it could focus on one of the popular main ensemble such as the €œHero of Canton€ Jayne Cobb. Taking this approach would allow for new stories to be told that aren€™t too beholden to the continuity of what has come before, and it doesn€™t hurt that Whedon€™s track record with spin-offs includes Angel and the undisputed most successful spin-off property of all time The Avengers. Propelling the spin-off idea a step further it could also draw inspiration from Netflix€™s resurrection of Arrested Development, by taking each of the surviving characters of the Serenity and giving them their own story, which explores where they are in the Verse a decade after we last saw them. This would work in that it would continue the ongoing story but also lay the foundations for a return proper to a Firefly series.
