8 Best Anthology Shows Ever
5. Tales Of The Unexpected
Based on the Roald Dahl novel series, Tales of the Unexpected first aired in 1979 on ITV, following a selection of the author's short stories of sinister and amusing tales that tended to conclude with a shocking twist ending.
Dahl often began the episodes by presenting the idea of the story himself in front of an open fire, before the star-studded cast took to recreating the adaptation.
The episodes ranged from black comedy to the horror to the bizarre, with many of the stories freaking out the viewers who used to watch.
The title is quite self explanatory, however some twists are easily more expected than others. For audiences who enjoy the thriller genre but not the gore of a show like American Horror Story, Tales of the Unexpected is much tamer, whilst still offering the spooks in a variety of moments.
The show was sold to over seventy countries worldwide and ran for 112 episodes in nine series before concluding in 1988. In 2018, it was announced that the series could return for a reboot.
Details are still scarce today - however, the Roald Dahl Story Company did confirm that things were happening behind the scenes.
