8 Bizarre TV Pilots That Were Doomed To Fail

8. K-9 And Company

Look, everybody loves a good sidekick. They're loveable, entertaining and occasionally they rise above their call of duty and save the day. But there's a reason sidekicks exist, and that's to support the protagonist. There have been many attempts to transplant sidekick characters into their own shows over the history of television and the vast majority of them do not fare well. In general, these sidekicks are human. At the very least they're living. In this instance, it's a robot dog. K-9 And Company was a Doctor Who spin-off, set to star series regular Sarah Jane Smith and her robotic dog K-9. K-9's inclusion most likely sprang from its immense popularity with children. The show never made it past the first episode (which detailed Sarah Jane and K-9's attempt to defeat a bunch of witches who are angry over an anti-Wiccan editorial). Nevertheless, K-9 continues to very occasionally pop up on Doctor Who. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu7OiJpnlUs
