8 Doctor Who Actors Who Were Fired Or Quit

Freema Agyeman was introduced in the third season of the 2005 series as Doctor Martha Jones. She was a medical student who, through no fault of her own, ended up in a wild hospital to the Moon heist, which brought her to the attention of the Doctor, earning her a place on the TARDIS.

Jones was in a bit of a pickle where the Doctor was concerned, and that was due to the fact that she clearly fancied him. For his part, the Doctor wasn't willing to cross that line, having let himself feel something for Rose, only to have lost her.

Because of this, he kept her at a distance, and that ultimately helped aid in her departure. After deciding to leave, Martha was written off the show at the end of season three, though she wasn't removed altogether. Having found the confidence she was looking for, she chose to leave the Doctor's side to be on her own.

She returned a few times while David Tennant was still piloting the TARDIS, and popped up in the second season of Torchwood, but for the most part, she was retired from the series when Agyeman chose to depart Doctor Who for good.
