8 Doctor Who Actors Who Were Fired Or Quit

1. Colin Baker

As most Doctor Who fans know, Colin Baker was the 6th Doctor, and when he came onto the series in 1984, he brought a great deal of talent to the role, but he inevitably became the victim of BBC management. In '84, when he began, the network was trying to do away with the Time Lord.

While filming his first season in 1984, the series was interrupted by an 18-month hiatus. This was done to shift the program back from the Spring to the Autumn schedule, but when production picked back up again, things weren't looking good for Baker.

The network had lost faith in the series and wanted to move away from science-fiction. As a result, Baker was fired, and the series continued with the 7th Doctor as played by Sylvester McCoy, but even he didn't remain on the series for more than a couple of years — granted, he wasn't fired.

The direction the show was taking set it on the path of cancelation, and while Baker was upset at the time of his sacking, he's had some time to think about it. "I think I was unlucky to be playing the part when I was. But, with the benefit of hindsight, I feel less personally affronted by what happened than I did at the time."
