8 Doctor Who Episodes Ruined By Their Endings

5. Resolution

Resolution is easily one of the better episodes in the lacklustre Series 11, but it isn't without its flaws, and the ending is a big one.

The plot of the episode centres around an immensely powerful lone Dalek, which is capable of possessing the bodies of humans in order to remain undetected. This thing is an absolute monster - in one scene, it single-handedly takes down a small army of trigger-happy soldiers with apparent ease - but frustratingly, the ending does a complete 180 on its portrayal, making it seem quite weak and incompetent.

In a baffling scene, this Dalek - which was previously shown to have pinpoint accuracy - fails to hit the Doctor (or her allies) when they're running right towards it, in a wide open room. Then - to make things worse - the Doctor defeats it by simply sticking microwave components to its casing. Right.

The episode seemed to be building to a much more interesting and difficult confrontation between the Doctor and the Dalek, but the confrontation we did get was laughable, completely stripping the Dalek of its established badass status.

Another thing that drags the episode down in its final stretch is the painfully unfunny wi-fi joke, one of many instances in the Chibnall era in which the showrunner forces in some lame dad humour. And let's not even talk about the fact that the Doctor nearly fires an innocent man into a supernova...

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
