Sir Patrick Stewart is already an established veteran of the sci-fi universe for his iconic portrayal of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation but he's made no secret of the fact that he's keen to leave his mark on another formidable franchise, too. Because why the hell not? He almost came close to achieving it back in 2009 when he was being lined up to play the Meddling Monk, a renegade Time Lord from the Classic Series who interferes in the events of history purely for his own amusement, in a timey-wimey two parter alongside the Tenth Doctor. The premise ultimately fizzled into nothingness, however, and it looks like it's destined to remain in the realms of fan fiction after Patrick has revealed that he only really wanted to guest star in an episode with David Tennant, whom he had formed a close friendship with after treading the boards with him in a critically acclaimed production of Hamlet. Despite this, he also turned down a guest part in David's final Doctor Who escapade, The End of Time. The role of the story's ominous Narrator, who was eventually revealed to be Rassilon, Lord President of the Time Lords, was initially offered to Patrick but he turned it down so it went to Timothy Dalton instead. Perhaps Patrick's just secretly vying for the coveted title of the titular Time Lord himself..
